In October 2025, the business climate has sharply rebounded in the whole sector comprising retail trade and trade and repair of motor vehicles. At 99, the indicator that synthesises it has gained seven points and has almost reached its long-term average (100). This improvement results from the strong increase in the balances of opinion related to ordering intentions, and to a lesser extent, from the rebound in the balance on the general business outlook. This upturn in the business climate is particularly strong in trade and repair of motor vehicles.

The balance of opinion on ordering intentions has increased strongly
In October 2025, the balance of opinion on ordering intentions has increased strongly and has almost reached its long-term average. The balances related to the general business outlook and to expected sales have rebounded and moved closer to their long-term average. Conversely, the balance on past sales has decreased again and has moved away from its own.
The balance of opinion on expected selling prices has fallen back, returning to its long-term average.
The balance associated with the current level of stocks is almost stable, still above its average since June 2023.
The balance of opinion on expected workforce size has slightly fallen back and remains well below its long-term average; the one on past workforce size has rebounded but also remains well below its own.
Lastly, the balance on felt economic uncertainty is almost stable, at its average level.

The business climate has increased more strongly in trade and repair of motor vehicles
In October 2025, the business climate has slightly rebounded in retail trade (excluding motor vehicles) and has moved closer to its long-term average. The balances related to ordering intentions and to the general business outlook have increased and moved closer to their respective average. The balance related to expected sales is stable, below its long-term average, while the one related to past sales has decreased again, returning to its average.
In trade and repair of motor vehicles, the business climate has improved strongly. At 100, it has gained nine points and has reached back its long-term average. The balance related to ordering intentions has improved sharply again: it has moved above its average and reached its highest level since February 2023. The balances related to the general business outlook and to expected sales have also clearly increased and have moved closer to their respective average. Conversely, the balance related to past sales has slightly decreased and remains well below its average.
