Sources

A general presentation of the source All employees database is accessible in the section "Definitions, Methods and quality".

The 2023 vintage provides data on average monthly net full-time equivalent (FTE) wages at the place of work. Previously, these were average hourly net wages at the place of residence. For more information, please refer to the documentation in Insee Première n°2020.

The salary data in the All employees database has not been assessed or validated at a geographical level finer than that of the départements. Beyond that level, the data must therefore be used with caution.

Définitions

Wage in full-time equivalent (FTE) :

Wage in full-time equivalent (FTE) is a wage converted to a full-time throughout the full year, regardless of the actual workload. For an employee who has held a job for six months at 80% and has earned a total of 10 000 euros, the wage in FTE is 10, 000 / (0.5 * 0.8) = 25, 000 euros per year.

To calculate the FTE average wage or its distribution, all jobs including part-time positions are counted in proportion to their actual workload (ie 0.5 * 0.8 = 0.4 FTE in the previous example).

Wages and salaries :

Wages and salaries are the payment for work agreed between an employee and his or her employer under the contract of employment in the private sector and for contractual agents in the public service, or employment for civil servants.

Post of work :

In employment and wage statistics, a job (or position) corresponds to the employment relationship between an individual and an establishment over a given period of time.

Champ

The scope corresponds to employees in the private sector, including beneficiaries of subsidised contracts and professionalisation contracts; excluding apprentices, trainees, agricultural employees and employees of private individuals.

It is used for publications and dissemination products on the private sector, notably for the annual Insee Première report on private sector wages.

Please note that in 2022, this scope was slightly modified. Its precise definition was harmonized with other dissemination products from the "All Employees" database. Specifically, a clause excluding public sector employees, based on the legal category of companies, was removed.

Géographie

The statistics for 2023 are available in the municipal geography in force on 01/01/2025.

Data are not available for Mayotte.

Confidentiality

Data from the All Employees databases are subject to statistical confidentiality.

No statistics are published for areas with fewer than 2,000 inhabitants.

In addition, each box in the table must contain at least 5 employees and no employee may represent more than 80% of the total payroll for the box. Similarly, in the case of workplace data, no box should relate to fewer than 3 establishments (or companies) and no establishment (or company) should account for more than 85% of the total payroll in the box.

As a result of these constraints, results from certain areas with more than 2,000 inhabitants were excluded from the distribution.
