In June 2025, the volume of sales in trade increased by 0.5% over a month, after a drop of 0.5% in May.
In June 2025, the volume of sales increased in wholesale trade, as well as in wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles
In June 2025*, the volume of sales in wholesale trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles increased by 0.8% over a month (after -0.6% in May). This rebound is mainly driven by the recovery in sales in “other specialised wholesale (fuels, wood, chemicals, etc.)” (+3.3% after -1.7%), particularly in the wholesale of metals and metal ores (+16.3% after -2.4%).
The volume of sales also picked up in the wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+0.4% after -1.3%). With the exception of sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles, which continued to decline (‑2.8% after -2.2%), all other sub-sectors increased. The main contributor to this rebound in activity is the trade of motor vehicle parts and accessories (+0.8% after ‑1.3%).
Lastly, the volume of sales remained stable again in retail trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles. This new stability results from a contraction in sales in specialised stores (‑0.5% after +0.1%), offset by a rebound in sales in non-specialised stores (+0.5% after -0.3%) and by the further increase in retail trade not in stores (+1.1% after +0.6%). In particular, within specialised stores, sales volumes declined in “other goods in specialised stores (pharmacies, clothing shops, shoe shops, etc.)” (-1.1% after +0.4%), while it rebounded for automotive fuel (+1.5% after -1.3%).
Year on year, the volume of sales of the second quarter of 2025 went up by 0.8%
The cumulative volume of sales of the second quarter of 2025 in overall trade was 0.8% higher than that of the second quarter of 2024. Excluding trade and repair motor vehicles and motorcycles, it increased sharply in the retail trade (+3.4%) and more moderately in the wholesale trade (+0.4%). Conversely, it decreased in the trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (‑2.9%).
Within the retail trade sector, sales grew in specialised stores (+4.0%), in non-specialised stores (+2.3%) and in retail trade not in stores (+3.6%).
