In August 2025, consumer prices increased by 0.9% year on year Consumer price index - provisional results - August 2025
These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indices published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 12 September 2025.
Over a year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 0.9% in August 2025, after +1.0% in July, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. This slight fall in inflation should be explained by the slowdown in prices of services, particularly those of transport. Conversely, the prices of energy should fall at a slower pace than in the previous month, driven by those of petroleum product. Food and tobacco prices should rise at the same rate as in July, and manufactured products prices should fall at a slightly faster pace than in the previous month.
Over one month, consumer prices should increase by 0.4% in August 2025, after +0.2% in July. This further increase in prices should be explained in particular by the seasonal rise in prices of manufactured products after the summer sales, particularly those of clothing. The prices of services and food should rise slightly compared with July. Conversely, the prices of energy should fall back slightly over a month, driven by those of petroleum products.
Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 0.8% in August 2025, after +0.9% in July. Over one month, it should increase by 0.5%, after +0.3% in the previous month.
