In February 2025, the volume of sales in trade was again virtually stable over a month (‑0.1% as in January).

In February 2025, the sales volume fell back mainly in retail trade

In February 2025*, the volume of sales fell in retail trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles (‑0.3% after +0.9%), mainly due to lower sales in specialised stores (‑0.4% after +1.7%) and, to a lesser extent, to a further fall in trade not in stores (‑0.6% after ‑0.8%). Within specialised stores, the volume of sales dropped particularly in “other goods in specialised stores (pharmacies, clothing shops, shoe shops, etc.)” (‑1.0% after +2.1%) and “other household equipment (sales of furniture, appliances, hardware, etc.)” (‑0.8% after +2.1%).

The volume of sales in the wholesale except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles was again virtually stable over a month (‑0.1% as in January). It decreased again in the wholesales of food, beverages and tobacco (‑1.2% after ‑0.4%) as well as in the wholesale of household goods (‑0.9% as in January). Conversely, it rose again in the wholesale of information and communication equipment (+2.5% after +0.2%) and bounced back in the wholesale on a fee or contract basis (+0.8% after ‑0.4%).

Lastly, the volume of sales picked up slightly in the trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+0.2% after ‑1.9%), mainly due to a further increase in sales of motor vehicle parts and accessories (+1.4% after +0.7%).

From December 2024 to February 2025, the volume of sales went down by 1.2% compared to the same three months a year before

The cumulative volume of sales in overall trade between December 2024 and February 2025 was 1.2% lower than that of the same period a year earlier. It decreased sharply in the trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (‑5.9%) and more moderately in the wholesale trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles (‑1.4%). Conversely, it increased in retail trade (+1.6%). Within the retail trade, it grew in specialised stores (+1.6%), in non-specialised stores (+1.2%) and in retail trade not in stores (+3.4%).
