In December 2024, output in services slowed down (+0.2% after +0.7% in November): the strong increase in transportation and storage was almost offset by the decline in output in all other sectors.

Over one month, services output increased only in transportation and storage
In December 2024*, output accelerated strongly in transportation and storage (+5.2% after +0.9%) with a very sharp rebound in water transport (+27.4% after ‑2.1%). At the same time, output declined in all other service sectors. It fell back in professional, scientific and technical activities (‑0.8% after +1.2%), information-communication (‑0.9% after +1.0%), administrative and support service activities (‑0.7% after +0.5%) and accommodation and food service activities (‑0.2% after +0.6%). It declined again in real estate activities (‑0.3% after ‑0.2%) and in arts, entertainment and recreation (‑0.4% after ‑1.0%).

In the fourth quarter of 2024, output in services was up by 3.4% compared to the same period a year earlier
Output in the fourth quarter of 2024 was 3.4% higher than that of the same quarter a year earlier. This increase was mainly driven by professional, scientific and technical activities (+4.5%), transportation and storage (+5.3%), information-communication (+2.7%) and administrative and support service activities (+1.6%). Output also increased over a year in real estate activities (+2.4%), accommodation and food service activities (+2.4%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (+4.5%).
Revisions
The monthly change in the services production index in November 2024 has been revised downwards by 0.2 points compared to the previous release and stands now at +0.7% (after rounding).
