In Q1 2024, the production costs in construction rose by 0.4% over a quarter, after +0.2% in the previous quarter. They rose in civil engineering (+0.2% after +0.4%), in construction of buildings (+0,3 % after +0.1%) and in specialised construction works (+0.4% after +0.1%). The rise of labour costs (+0.7%) and materials were partially offset by a fall in energy costs (-2.6%).
Year on year, production costs in construction slowed down (+1.3% in Q1 2024 after +2.2% in Q1 2023). The production costs were almost stable in civil engineering (-0.1% after -0.8%) but slowed down in buildings construction (+1.3% after +3.2%) and specialized construction works (+1.6% after +2.8%).
With effect from this publication, the construction production cost indices are published with 2021 as the base year (base 100); the indices of the previous quarters have been aligned with this base.

Revision
All series have been aligned with a new base year: the reference year is now 2021.
For further information
Monthly production cost indices are released every three months.
These indices aggregate the cost indices of six or seven factors of production: capital, labour, energy, materials, services, transport and wastes (only for public works).
These indices are subject to revision. They are primarily used as inputs for the national accounts and macroeconomics analyses.
Next issue: end of September 2024.
