Over a month, output bounced back in most service sectors

In December 2023, output rebounded significantly in administrative and support service activities (+3.4% after ‑1.8%), and more moderately in information-communication (+2.1% after ‑1.5%), transportation and storage (+1.8% after ‑0.7%), real estate activities (+1.8% after ‑2.5%), and accommodation and food service activities (+1.3% after ‑1.3%). Conversely, it fell back in professional, scientific and technical activities (‑0.5% after +0.5%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (‑1.4% after +4.9%).

Over a year, output in services was up by 1.5%

Output in the fourth quarter of 2023 was 1.5% higher than that of the same quarter of 2022. It increased sharply in information-communication (+4.2%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (+4.2%), and more moderately in professional, scientific and technical activities (+1.9%), administrative and support service activities (+1.0%), and accommodation and food service activities (+1.5%). Conversely, it declined in real estate activities (‑2.8%) and transportation and storage (‑1.2%).

Revisions

The monthly change in the services production index in November 2023 is left unchanged (after rounding) compared to the previous publication, at ‑0.6%.
