Over a month, output bounced back in most sectors

In August 2023, output rebounded in real estate activities (+2.0% after ‑1.6%), professional, scientific and technical activities (+0.6% after ‑1.6%), arts, entertainment and recreation (+2.5% after ‑2.8%) and accommodation and food service activities (+0.7% after ‑1.8%). Conversely, it fell back in information-communication (‑1.0% after +0.6%) and transportation and storage (‑0.8% after +2.0%), particularly in land transport (‑1.5% after +3.7%). It was virtually stable in administrative and support service activities (+0.1% after +1.2%).

Over a year, output in services was up markedly (+3.0%)

Output over the last three months (June to August 2023) was 3.0% higher than in the same months a year earlier. It increased markedly in information-communication (+7.5%), and in arts, entertainment and recreation (+7.8%), mainly due to activities linked to sport. It went up in professional, scientific and technical activities (+3.3%), administrative and support service activities (+2.9%) and accommodation and food service activities (+3.1%). On the contrary, it declined significantly in real estate activities (‑5.3%), and more slightly, in transportation and storage (‑1.4%).

Revisions

The monthly change in the services production index in July 2023 is revised upwards by 0.5 points (after rounding), to ‑0.3%. This marked revision is mainly due to the late inclusion of declarations submitted after the due by certain companies during the summer vacations.
