Over a month, output declined in particular due to professional, scientific and technical activities and arts, entertainment and recreation

In July 2023, output fell back in professional, scientific and technical activities (‑2.5% after +0.4%), arts, entertainment and recreation (‑5.2% after +1.2%), accommodation and food service activities (‑2.3% after +2.1%) and declined again in real estate activities (‑2.4% after -1.9%). Conversely, it rebounded significantly in transportation and storage (+2.7% after ‑2.6%), particularly in land transport (+4.0% after ‑4.5%), and more modestly in administrative and support service activities (+0.5% after ‑3.0%). It accelerated slightly in information-communication (+0.8% after +0.4%).

Over a year, output in services was up markedly (+4.1%)

Output over the last three months (May to July 2023) was 4.1% higher than in the same months a year earlier. It increased markedly in information-communication (+10.8%), particularly in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (+12.9%). It was up significantly in professional, scientific and technical activities (+3.4%), administrative and support service activities (+4.1%), arts, entertainment and recreation (+7.6%) and accommodation and food service activities (+2.8%). It increased more moderately in transportation and storage (+0.6%). On the contrary, it declined significantly in real estate activities (‑4.7%).

Revisions

Compared to the previous release, the month-on-month percentage change in the index of services output in June 2023 is unchanged (after rounding), at ‑0.5%.
