In May 2023, output in services bounced back over one month (+2.0%) after a drop in April (‑0.5%).

Over a month, output was up in most activities

In May 2023, output rebounded in administrative and support service activities (+3.9% after -0.8%) where five of the six sub-sectors were up. With an increase in all sub-sectors, output also rebounded in information-communication (+2.7% after -0.3%) and professional, scientific and technical activities (+1.5% after -0.8%). It bounced back in transportation and storage (+2.4% after -1.3%) and in arts, entertainment and recreation (+0.9% after -0.4%). Output accelerated in accommodation and food service activities (+2.8% after +0.5%) due to food and beverage service activities (+3.9% after +0.5%). Conversely, it fell back in real estate activities (‑2.8% after +1.2%).

Over a year, output was up markedly (+4.9%)

Output in services for the last three months (March to May 2023) was up substantially (+4.9%) compared to that of the same period a year earlier. It increased markedly in information-communication (+9.1%), professional, scientific and technical activities (+4.2%), administrative and support service activities (+5.1%), arts, entertainment and recreation (+14.6%) and accommodation and food service activities (+3.8%). Output also increased, albeit more moderately, in transportation and storage (+0.7%), and fell in real estate activities (-0.6%).

Revisions

Compared to the previous release, the month-on-month percentage change in the index of services output in April 2023 is left unchanged at ‑0.5% after rounding.
