In May 2023, sales volume recovery led mostly by wholesale trade
In May 2023, the volume of sales in wholesale trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles bounced back over a month (+1.6%) after two consecutive drops in April (‑1.5%) and in March (‑1.0%). This increase was mainly due to the “other machinery, equipment and supplies” (+5.3% after ‑3.4%) and the “agricultural raw materials and live animals” (+7.5% after +3.4%).
The volume of sales also recovered in May 2023 in the wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+1.7% after ‑0.5% in April), especially in the sale of motor vehicles (+2.3% after ‑0.7%).

In contrast, it bounced back slightly both in specialised stores (+0.3% after ‑1.0%) and in retail trade not in stores (+0.7% after ‑5.1%). Within specialised stores, most of the increase came from the “other goods” (pharmaceutical products, clothing, footwear, etc.: +1.0% after +0.7%) and automotive fuel (+2.6% after ‑9.0%). Conversely, the volume of sales decreased sharply in information and communication equipment (‑6.3% after a virtual stability).
