All data are seasonally and working-day adjusted (SA-WDA).

In April 2023, output in services was down over one month (‑0.5%) after a virtual stability in March (+0.1%).

Output declined over a month, due in particular to business support activities and transportation and storage

In April 2023, output fell again in professional, scientific and technical activities (‑0.9% after ‑1.1%), and fell back in transportation and storage (‑1.3% after +0.2%), administrative and support service activities (‑0.8% after +0.8%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (‑0.5% after +3.3%). On the contrary, it rebounded markedly in real estate activities (+0.8% after ‑0.4%), and more slightly in accommodation and food service activities (+0.2% after ‑1.4%). Finally, it slowed down in information-communication (+0.2% after +0.9%).

Over a year, output was up sharply (+4.6%)

Output in services for the last three months (February to April 2023) was up sharply (+4.6%) compared to that of the same period a year earlier. It increased markedly in information-communication (+6.9%), professional, scientific and technical activities (+4.4%), and more strongly in arts, entertainment and recreation (+18.1%) and accommodation and food service activities (+7.8%) due in particular to a base effect linked to the health situation a year earlier (end of Omicron wave). Output also increased, but more moderately, in administrative and support service activities (+2.7%), real estate activities (+0.7%), transportation and storage (+0.5%), with significant disparities within the latter sector between air transport (+9.5%) and postal and courier activities (‑11.3%).

Revisions

Compared to the previous release, the month-on-month percentage change in the index of services output in March 2023 has been revised upwards. Initially published at ‑0.1%, it is now evaluated at +0.1% after rounding.
