In June 2023, the business climate in retail trade and trade and repair of motor vehicles as a whole has improved. At 102, the indicator that synthesizes it has gained two points and lies above its long-term average. This increase is mainly due to the rise of the balance of opinion concerning ordering intentions and, to a lower extent, of the one associated with the general business outlook.

The balances of opinion related to ordering intentions and the general business outlook have increased
In June 2023, the balance of opinion on ordering intentions has rebounded and has moved closer to its long-term average. The one on the general business outlook has slightly increased and has moved away from its own. Conversely, the balances associated to past and expected sales have diminished again and lie below their respective average. Finally, compared to last month, fewer business managers consider that the evolution of their business situation is difficult to forecast.
Concerning employment, the balance of opinion associated with the recent change in the workforce size has rebounded and the one related to its expected change has slightly increased again. Both of them remain nonetheless below their long-term average.
The balance associated with the current level of stocks has increased markedly for its part and has moved above its average.

In June 2023, the balance of opinion on the expected selling prices has sharply decreased for the third month in a row, after having reached in March 2023 its highest level since the beginning of the series (1991). It remains nonetheless well above its long-term average.

The economic outlook has evolved more favourably in retail trade (excluding trade and repair of motor vehicles) than in trade and repair of motor vehicles
The balance of opinion on ordering intentions has rebounded sharply in retail trade (excluding trade and repair of motor vehicles) but has retreated slightly in trade and repair of motor vehicles. Concerning the balance on the general business outlook, it has increased for the third month in a row in retail trade (excluding trade and repair of motor vehicles), but has retreated in the trade and repair of motor vehicles.
