At 107, the synthetic indicator has lost one point and has been dropping for six months. Building construction managers’ opinion about their activity has deteriorated slightly
In June 2023, building construction managers’ opinion about both their past and expected activity has degraded slightly. The balance of opinion regarding their expected activity has been dropping since the beginning of the year but remains slightly above its average. The one regarding past activity has dropped again but remains above its average.
Slightly more business managers than in the previous month have considered the evolution of their company situation to be unpredictable: the balance of opinion on the economic uncertainty felt has risen slightly.

The opinion on demand has deteriorated again
In June 2023, slightly less building contractors than in last month have considered the level of their order books to be higher than average. The corresponding balance of opinion has been dropping for ten months, but remains above its long term average.
Given their staff size, building contractors have considered that their order books provide them with 8.5 months of work, an almost stable duration compared to the previous month.
Supply difficulties have kept on dipping
In June 2023, the production capacity utilisation rate is stable: it stands at 92.3%, above its long term average (89.0%).
As many business managers as in the previous month have reported facing obstacles limiting their production (65%). The share of business managers who declared facing a workforce shortage has dropped slightly (44%), and so has the proportion of those who declared facing supply difficulties (11%): those two shares remain nonetheless well above their long term average.
The proportion of companies that have reported to be at the limit of their production capacity (production bottlenecks), that is to say that they could not produce more with their current means if they were to receive more orders, has rebounded slightly. 27% of business managers considered themselves unable to increase their production in case of additional orders due to a lack of personnel and 6% due to supply difficulties.
The balance of opinion regarding expected prices has continued to drop
In June 2023, significantly less business managers than in the previous month have announced that they will increase their prices in the upcoming three months. The corresponding balance of opinion has continued to drop since February 2023. This balance remains nonetheless well above its long term average.
