In April 2023, consumer prices increased by 5.9% year on year Consumer price index - provisional results - April 2023
These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indices published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 12 May 2023.
Over a year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 5.9% in April 2023, after +5.7% in the previous month, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. This increase in inflation should result from an acceleration in energy prices (as the year-on-year decrease in petroleum product prices would be less marked than that of the previous month) and in those of services. Prices of tobacco should also accelerate. On the contrary, food prices should slow down: those of fresh products should decelerate, while those of food excluding fresh products should increase over one year at a rate close to that of the previous month. Lastly, the year-on-year rise in manufactured product prices should be close to that of March.
Over one month, consumer prices should increase by 0.6% in April 2023, after +0.9% in March. The prices of energy should slightly decline, due to a decrease in the prices of gas and in petroleum products. The prices of food should slow down, linked with a decline of those of fresh food, as should those of manufactured goods and tobacco. On the contrary, the prices of services should accelerate, due to the upturn in transport service prices and to the acceleration of those of “other services”.
Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 6.9% in April 2023, after +6.7% in March. Over one month, it should increase by 0.7%, after +1.0% in the previous month.
