The balance of opinion on order books has kept on weakening

In April 2023, slightly less building contractors than in last month have considered the level of their order books to be higher than average. The corresponding balance has continued to drop since December 2022, but remains above its long term average. Given their staff size, building contractors have considered that their order books provide them with 8.5 months of work, a stable duration when compared to the previous month.

Supply difficulties have kept on dipping but those regarding workforce shortage remain significant

In April 2023, the production capacity utilisation rate is stable: it stands at 92.2%, above its long term average (88.9%).

Slightly more business managers than in the previous month have reported facing obstacles limiting their production (66%). This proportion has bounced back slightly after a three consecutive months of decline. The share of business managers who declared facing a workforce shortage has increased slightly (46%). Conversely, the proportion of those declaring supply difficulties has kept on dipping: after reaching 40% in April 2022, it stands one year later at 15%, its lowest level since April 2021.

The proportion of companies that have reported to be at the limit of their production capacity (production bottlenecks), that is to say that they could not produce more with their current means if they were to receive more orders, has risen and stands well above its long term average. 27% of business managers considered themselves unable to increase their production in case of additional orders due to a lack of personnel and 8% due to supply difficulties.

The share of companies that reported facing recruiting difficulties has diminished but remains well above its long term average.

The balance of opinion regarding prices has kept on dropping

In April 2023, less business managers than in the previous month have announced that they will increase their prices in the upcoming three months. The corresponding balance of opinion has been continuously diminishing since January 2023 but remains well above its long term average.

The quarterly balance of opinion on cash flow position has improved. Its level has parted away from its long term average.
