In the fourth quarter of 2022, producer prices of services fell back over a quarter (‑0.8% after +1.4%). This is the first quarterly downturn since the fourth quarter of 2020 (‑0.2%). Prices of services sold to home businesses slowed down (+0.5% after +0.7%), while the prices of those sold on foreign markets fell back markedly (‑6.3% after +1.3%). Prices of services sold to households in France went down in accordance with the usual seasonal pattern (‑1.3% after +2.7%). Over a year, producer prices of services – for all markets – decelerated significantly (+3.5% after +4.9%).

Deceleration of prices for administrative and support service activities, for accommodation and food service activities and for real estate activities
Prices for administrative and support service activities slowed down in the fourth quarter of 2022 (+0.7% after +1.1%), notably those for rental and leasing services (+1.2% after +1.5%). However, prices for employment services sped up (+1.5% after +0.4%). Year on year, prices for administrative and support service activities accelerated slightly (+4.8% after +4.5%) and were 7% above their 2019 level.
In the fourth quarter of 2022, prices for accommodation and food service activities decelerated again over a quarter (+1.8% after +2.4% in the third quarter of 2022 and +4.7% in the second quarter of 2022), due to the slowdown of prices for hotel and similar accommodation services (+2.1% after +3.2% and +17.4%). However, prices for accommodation and food service activities sped up over a year (+9.0% after +7.0%), thus reaching a level 10% higher than in 2019.
In the fourth quarter of 2022, prices for real estate activities also decelerated over a quarter (+0.4% after +1.1%) as over a year, but remained nonetheless on a high rise (+4.3% after +4.5%). They were 7% above their 2019 level.
Acceleration of prices for professional, scientific and technical activities
In the fourth quarter of 2022, prices for professional, scientific and technical activities accelerated over a quarter (+1.0% after +0.3%), driven by those for media representation services which rebounded in accordance with the seasonal pattern (+18.6% after ‑11.1%). Year on year, prices for professional, scientific and technical activities rose by 2.9% (after +3.1%). Those prices were 4% above their 2019 level.
Rebound of prices for information and communication services
In the fourth quarter of 2022, prices for information and communication services rebounded over a quarter (+0.7% after ‑0.3%), driven by the seasonal rebound in prices for programming and broadcasting services (+13.1% after ‑8.4%). Over a year, prices for information and communication services slowed down (+1.0% after +1.5%). They were almost unchanged compared to their level in 2019 (+0.3%).
Fall of prices for transportation and storage services
In the fourth quarter of 2022, prices for transportation and storage services fell over a quarter (‑0.5% after +1.4%). Prices for air transport services went down, while those for land transport services and transport services via pipelines decelerated (+0.5% after +1.0%) and those for warehousing and support services for transportation were stable (+0.0% after +0.2%). Year on year, prices for transportation and storage services slowed down (+6.3% after +7.7%). However, these prices were still 14% above their 2019 average level.

Services sold to households in France: ‑1.3%
In the fourth quarter of 2022, producer prices of services sold to households in France fell over a quarter (‑1.3% after +2.7%), notably due to the seasonal downturn of prices for accommodation and food service activities (‑1.6% after +4.4%) and for administrative and support service activities (‑1.7% after +3.8%). Prices for transportation and storage services fell sharply (‑4.3% after +6.2%), as those for information and communication services (‑1.4% after +0.1%). However, those for professional, scientific and technical activities accelerated (+1.9% after +1.0%), while those for real estate activities slowed down (+0.2% after +0.5%). Year on year, producer prices of services sold to households in France decelerated slightly in the fourth quarter of 2022 (+4.2%, after +4.7%).

Services sold on foreign markets: ‑6.3%
In the fourth quarter of 2022, exported services producer prices fell back sharply over a quarter (‑6.3% after +1.3%), driven by the strong fall of those for transportation and storage services (‑16.5% after +1.7%) which had gone up significantly during the health crisis. In particular, prices for sea and coastal freight water transport services fell considerably (‑25.8% after ‑1.3% and +6.8% in the second quarter of 2022), notably due to a fall in demand. Prices for administrative and support service activities decelerated (+0.5% after +2.2%), as did those for professional, scientific and technical activities (+0.4% after +1.1%). At last, prices for information and communication services rebounded moderately (+0.3% after ‑1.0%). Year on year, exported services producer prices fell slightly (‑0.2% after +8.2%). However, these prices still stood 17% above their 2019 level.
