Warning

These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indices published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 17 February 2023.

The geographic scope of CPI and HICP expands from January 2023. The indices about “France” now cover the department of Mayotte.

Over a year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 6.0% in January 2023, after +5.9% in the previous month, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. This slight increase in inflation should result from an acceleration in food prices and energy prices. The prices of manufactured goods should increase at the same rate than in the previous month. The prices of services should slow down over one year.

Over one month, consumer prices should increase by 0.4% in January 2023, after ‑0.1% in December. The prices of energy should rebound due to the increase in petroleum product, partly due to the end of fuel rebates, and that, supervised, in gas prices. Prices of food should accelerate and those of services should be stable. The prices of manufactured goods should fall back in link with the winter sales.

Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 7.0% in January 2023, after +6.7% in December. Over one month, it should increase by 0.4%, after ‑0.1% in the previous month.
