In the following paragraphs, percentage changes by subsections are presented in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the services production index. The contribution of a subsection takes into account its weight and the magnitude of its evolution.

All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).

In October 2022, output in services fell (-0.7% after a virtual stability in September: +0.1%).

Over one month, the decline in output was concentrated in a minority of sectors

In October 2022, output fell back sharply in professional, scientific and technical activities (-4.8% after +4.0%), and fell again in real estate activities (-1.8% after -1.2 %), and accommodation and food services activities (-0.6% after -1.8%). On the contrary, it rebounded in information-communication (+1.9% after -1.4%), administrative and support services (+1.1% after -1.1%), transportation and storage (+1.0% after -1.5%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (+0.9% after -1.1%).

Over a year, output was up sharply (+9.8%)

Output of the last three months (August to October 2022) was up sharply (+9.8%) compared to that of the same period a year earlier, in particular in the professional, scientific and technical activities (+9.8%), information-communication (+11.5%), transportation and storage (+10.2%) and administrative and support service activities (+7.7%). As a result of the lifting of the last health restrictions at the end of June 2021 for certain cultural and food services activities, followed by a gradual return to normal for these sectors, output was up even more sharply, due to a base effect, in the arts, entertainment and recreation (+25.2%), and accommodation and food services (+12.7%). Finally, it was down slightly in real estate activities (-0.2%).

Revisions

The month-on-month percentage change in the index of services output in September 2022 has been slightly revised upwards. Initially published at -0.1%, it is now evaluated at +0.1% after rounding.
