1.9% rise over a quarter
In Q3 2022, buildings’ maintenance and improvement work prices – IPEA – slowed down (+1.9% over a quarter, after +2.7%). Prices went up slightly more in the residential sector (+2.1%) than in the non-residential sector (+1.7%).
They rose strongly in joinery installation (+3.3% after +3.5%), in “other specialised construction works” (+3.1% after +2.9%), floor and wall covering (+2.4%, as in the previous quarter). Prices went up more moderately in “other construction installation” (+1.9% after +1.6%) and in painting and glazing (+1.8%, as in the previous quarter). At last, they decelerated in roofing (+1.7% after +3.2%), plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation (+1.2% after +3.1%), plastering (+0.8% after +2.9%) and electrical installation (+0.4% after +1.2%).
9.9% rise over a year
Year on year, buildings' maintenance and improvement work prices went up by 9.9% in Q3 2022 (after +9.2% in the previous quarter). The rise was also higher in the residential sector (+10.4%) than in the non-residential sector (+9.2%).
Prices soared in joinery installation (+15.1% after +14.2%), plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation (+12.0% after +12.6%), roofing (+10.6%, as in the previous quarter) and in “other specialised construction works” (+9.9% after +7.6%). Prices rose at a more moderate pace in floor and wall covering (+8.0% after +6.6%), plastering (+7.8% after +8.5%), in “other construction installation” (+6.2% after +2.4%), in painting and glazing (+5.9% after +4.6%), and in electrical installation (+5.5% after +6.3%).
Revisions
The evolution in the IPEA between the first and the second quarter of 2022 was revised upward by 0.4 points and now stands at +2.7%, after taking into account late responses in plastering works and in joinery installation works. This revision mainly concerned the residential sector.

The buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) is a quarterly index which measures the evolution of prices (net of taxes) charged by construction enterprises (including artisanal forms) for their maintenance and improvement works in residential and non-residential buildings during the quarter under review.
The IPEA indices are not seasonally nor working-day adjusted.
