In October 2022, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 1.0% over one month, after -0.6% in September. After three consecutive months of decline, the prices of energy rebounded (+5.8% after -2.6%), driven by petroleum product prices (+6.9% after -7.0%), and those of food accelerated (+1.7% after +1.1%). The prices of manufactured goods slowed down slightly (+0.8% after +0.9%) and those of services were stable (+0.0% after -1.5%).
Seasonally adjusted, consumer prices increased by 1.0% after -0.3% in September.
Year on year, consumer prices grew by 6.2% after +5.6% in September. This increase in inflation resulted from the acceleration in food prices (+12.0% after +9.9%), energy prices (+19.1% after +17.9%) and manufactured good prices (+4.2% after +3.6%). The prices of services slowed down slightly in October (+3.1% after +3.2%).
The Consumer Price Index excluding tobacco for households that belong to the lowest equivalized disposable income quintile increased by 6.6% over one year, after +5.9% in September.
Increase in core inflation year on year
Year on year, core inflation grew by 5.0% in October, after +4.5% in September. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) increased by 1.2% over one month, after -0.5% in the previous month; year-on-year, it rose by 7.1% after +6.2% in September.

Acceleration in food prices year on year
Year on year, food prices increased sharply in October (+12.0% after +9.9%). The increase in fresh products was marked (+17.3% after +11.3%): the prices of fresh vegetables (+33.9% after +17.7%) and fresh fruits (+8.0% after +6.6%) accelerated. Contrariwise, the prices of fresh fish slowed down (+13.6% after +16.5%). Excluding fresh products, the food prices also accelerated (+11.1% after +9.6%), especially those of meat (+12.4% after +11.0%), milk, cheese and eggs (+14.8% after +12.6%), bread and cereals (+11.2% after +9.9%), non-alcoholic (+9.1% after +8.0%) and alcoholic beverages (+5.0% after +4.1%).
Acceleration in energy prices year on year
Year on year, the prices of energy accelerated in October (+19.1% after +17.9%). The prices of petroleum products rose (+19.9% after +18.7%) due to the increase in diesel prices (+20.3% after +19.1%) and the slight rebound in petrol prices (+0.3% after -2.3%). The prices of gas (+34.0% after +30.4%) and solid fuels (+49.1% after +28.4%) also accelerated. Contrariwise, the prices of electricity slowed down in October (+8.8% after +10.7%).

Increase in manufactured good prices year on year
Year on year, manufactured product prices increased by 4.2% in October (after +3.6% in September), due to the rise in clothing and footwear prices (+2.8% after +2.5%) and “other manufactured good” prices (+5.6% after +4.8%) and the smaller decrease in health product prices (-0.6% after -0.9%). The prices of other appliances, articles and products for personal care (+5.6% after +4.3%), vehicles (+6.5% after +5.8%), non-durable household goods (+12.2% after +9.8%), paper products (+14.5% after +12.4%) and glassware, tableware and household utensils (+6.7% after +5.4%) accelerated in October.
Slight slowdown in service prices year on year
Year on year, service prices rose by 3.1% in October, after +3.2% in September. The prices of communication services fell back (-1.3% after +0.7%) due to a sharper decrease in October in wireless telephone services (-5.4% after -1.0%). The prices of “other services” slowed down also (+3.9% after +4.0%). The decrease in television and radio license fee and subscription prices accentuated (-22.7% over a year after -11.3%) due to the gradual taking into account of the abolition of the public services broadcasting contribution. Contrariwise, the prices of accommodation services (+6.4% after +4.0%), maintenance and repair of the dwelling services (+5.6% after +5.2%) and insurance services (+0.7% after +0.2%) rose. The prices of transport services accelerated (+10.5% after +8.6%), notably airfares and transport by road prices (+27.5% after +23.1%) and transport by road (+6.7% after +5.5%). The prices of housing-related services (+2.4% after +2.0%) and health services (+0.5% after +0.3%) also accelerated in October.
