Over a year, manufacturing output went up by 2.6%
In the manufacturing industry, output of the third quarter of 2022 was higher than that of the same quarter of the previous year (+2.6%). In the whole industry, output was up more moderately (+0.7%), taking into account the drop in energy production.
Over this one-year period, output increased sharply in the manufacture of transport equipment (+11.0%), particularly in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+23.0%), less impacted than a year ago by supply difficulties for electronic components, though these difficulties persist to some extent. Output also went up in the “other manufacturing” industries (+1.3%) and the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+4.3%). It increased strongly in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+26.0%), due to a particularly low level a year ago owing to the shutdown of several refineries. On the contrary, output plummeted in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (-9.1%), owing to a drop in electricity production. Finally, it decreased slightly in the manufacture of food products and beverages (-0.5%).
The evolution of the August 2022 manufacturing index is revised upwards
The evolution of the manufacturing index between July and August 2022 is revised upwards by 0.3 points after rounding, compared to the previous release, at +3.0% instead of +2.7%. The evolution of the index for the whole industry is also revised upwards by 0.3 points, after rounding, at +2.7% instead of +2.4%.
