Fall of cereal prices over one month and slight deceleration year on year
In June 2022, cereal prices fell over one month (–6.1% after +3.5% in May). This drop was due to the fall of soft wheat prices (–5.8% after +3.6%) and that of maize prices (–9.2% after +4.0%), as a result of fears of a global economic recession and in the context of the negotiations taking place with Russia to unblock Ukrainian exports. The rise in cereal prices remained very sharp year on year (+72.6% after +74.5%).
Oilseed prices went down sharply in June 2022 (–11.0% over one month after –14.4%) due to falls of sunflower (–17.1% after –4.0%), rapeseed (–10.2% after –17.2%) and, to a lesser extent, soybean (–0.2% after +4.0%) prices. Year on year, oilseed prices slowed down, but continued to rise sharply (+43.3% after +57.0%).

Slowdown of animal prices over one month but acceleration year on year
In June 2022, animal prices slowed down over one month (+1.4% after +3.4%), in connection with the fall of pig prices (–1.2% after +2.4%) and the deceleration of large cattle prices (+1.0% after +3.5%). Poultry prices rose at the same rate as in May (+4.7% after +4.6%).
Year on year, animal prices continued to accelerate in June 2022 (+23.9% after +22.8% in May, +21.7% in April and +17.5% in March). This sharp rise was due in particular to large cattle prices (+36.6% after +36.4%). The rises of poultry (+19.4% after +15.5%) and pig (+9.8% after +10.1%) prices were sharp, but smaller.

More about French agricultural price indices
The index of producer prices for agricultural products (IPPAP) measures the change in product prices when the products are put on the market for the first time. It is published in base and reference 100 in 2015. The weight-coefficients of fresh fruit and vegetables change every month so that they reflect their seasonal pattern. As a result their variations can be interpreted only year on year. If needed, indices are seasonally adjusted.
The index of the purchase prices of inputs for agricultural production (IPPIAP) reflects the price evolution of goods and services used in the agricultural process. It is not seasonally adjusted.
The methodology of IPPAP is available on the Insee web site: https://www.insee.fr/en/metadonnees/source/indicateur/p1657/description
