In the following paragraphs, percentage changes by subsections are presented in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the services production index. The contribution of a subsection takes into account its weight and the magnitude of its evolution.

All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).

Services output dipped slightly in April 2022 (−0.1%) after an increase in March (+0.9%).

In April 2022, contrasted evolutions depending on the sectors

In April 2022, output fell sharply in arts, entertainment and recreation (−8.8% after a sharp increase in March: +14.2%) and, to a lesser extent, in transportation and storage (−2.1% after +2.2%). It was virtually stable in information-communication (−0.1% after +1.2%). On the other hand, it was up in professional, scientific and technical activities (+1.4% after 0.0%), continued to rebound after January's low in accommodation and food services activities (+2.2% after + 2.0%) in particular in accommodation (+7.8% after +1.3%), and bounced back in administrative and support services activities (+0.5% after −1.0%). It increased slightly in real estate activities (+0.2% after −2.2%).

Over a year, output was up sharply (+17.6%)

Due in particular to a base effect linked to the persistent restrictions at the beginning of 2021 on a part of cultural and food service activities, then the third national lockdown from 3 April 2021, the services output of the last three months (from February to April) was 17.6% higher than the same period of 2021.

Output increased sharply year-on-year in accommodation and food service activities (+142.3%), arts, entertainment and recreation (+106.3%), professional, scientific and technical activities (+9.7%), administrative and support services activities (+10.4%), information-communication (+8.6%), and transportation and storage (+12.1% with a marked improvement in air transport:+68.5%). Growth was more moderate in real estate activities (+5.7%).

Revisions

The month-on-month percentage change in the index of services output in March 2022 has been slightly revised upwards. Initially published at +0.8%, it is now evaluated at +0.9% after accounting for rounding.
