In February 2022, the total turnover in large-scale food retailing (including sales not in stores) kept growing (+1.5% after +1.7% in January). The in-store sales dwindled for both food products (−0.4% after +1.0%) and non-food products (−0.7% after +1.6%). In contrast, the turnover sped up sharply in the sales of automotive fuel (+6.9% after +1.5%), in the context of a rise in prices.
The turnover from in-store sales fell back in supermarkets (−0.2% after +1.4%) and sped up in hypermarkets (+1.2% after +0.8%).
In February 2022, a further increase of large-scale food retailing turnover
In February 2022, the total turnover in large-scale food retailing (including sales not in stores) kept growing (+1.5% after +1.7% in January). The in-store sales dwindled for both food products (−0.4% after +1.0%) and non-food products (−0.7% after +1.6%). In contrast, the turnover sped up sharply in the sales of automotive fuel (+6.9% after +1.5%), in the context of a rise in prices.
The turnover from in-store sales fell back in supermarkets (−0.2% after +1.4%) and sped up in hypermarkets (+1.2% after +0.8%).
Increase in turnover over a year (+3.6%)
The turnover of the past three months (December 2021 to February 2022) in large-scale food retailing increased (+3.6%) when compared with the same period one year earlier. While the sales decreased both in food products (−1.2%) and non-food products (−3.3%), they grew very strongly in the sales of automotive fuel (+40.4%), mainly due to the rise in their prices.
Year on year, the sales from December 2021 to February 2022 increased both in supermarkets (+3.6%) and hypermarkets (+4.3%).
