These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indices published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 15 March 2022.

Additional information is available in “For further information”.

Over a year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 3.6% in February 2022, after +2.9% in the previous month, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. This increase in inflation should result from the acceleration of energy, service, manufactured good and food prices. The slight decrease in tobacco prices over one year should maintain at the same level as in January.

Over one month, consumer prices should rise by 0.7%, after +0.3% in January. The prices of manufactured goods should rebound due to the end of winter sales. The prices of energy should accelerate in the wake of those of petroleum products. Those of services should increase slightly, linked to the rebound in transport service prices. The prices of food and tobacco should slow down.

Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 4.1%, after +3.3% in January. Over one month, it should increase by 0.8%, after +0.2% in the previous month.

Definition

The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) is designed for comparison of consumer price inflation between Members States of the European Union. It is computed for all households in France except Mayotte. The main difference between HICP and CPI is about the health costs: HICP is based on net prices of social security reimbursements and CPI is based on gross prices.
