In the following paragraphs, percentage changes by subsections are presented in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the services production index. The contribution of a subsection takes into account its weight and the magnitude of its evolution.

All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).

In November 2021, output in services increased again (+2.7%), after a decline in October (-0.6%) which had interrupted four months of continuous growth.

In November 2021, output increased in a majority of sectors

In November 2021, output rebounded sharply in arts, entertainment and recreation (+20.1% after –6.7%) and accelerated in transportation and storage (+6.0% after +2.1%) where all sub-sectors were up, particularly land transport (+8.1% after +3.0%). However, real estate activities fell sharply again (–5.1% after –6.6%). Output rebounded in information-communication (+2.7% after –2.7%), increased in administrative and support services activities (+2.4% after +1.2%) and in professional, scientific and technical activities (+1.5% after +1.0%). For the latter sector, the increase was mainly due to a sharp acceleration in the activities of head offices and management consultancy (+4.6% after +1.7%). Finally, output went up slightly in accommodation and food service activities (+0.5%, as in October).

Over a year, output was up sharply (+12.3%)

As a result of a base effect linked to the deterioration of the health situation in autumn 2020, marked initially by localized measures on pubs, and then by the second lockdown from 30 October 2020, output of the last three months (September to November 2021) was 12.3% higher than the same period a year earlier.

Output increased sharply year-on-year in accommodation and food service activities (+49.0%), professional, scientific and technical activities (+8.9%), arts, entertainment and recreation activities (+47.9%), information-communication (+8.8%), administrative and support services activities (+8.2%), transportation and storage (+8.7%). Growth was more moderate in real estate activities (+1.9%).

Revisions

The month-on-month percentage change in the index of services output in October 2021 is left unchanged at –0.6%, compared to the previous release.
