In October 2021, the price of oil in euros accelerated significantly (+13.8% after +5.2% in September). Oil prices accelerated
In October 2021, the price of North Sea crude oil (Brent) in dollars increased sharply (+12.1% after +5.1%) to an average of $83.5. In euro terms, the acceleration in the price per barrel was even more marked (+13.8% after +5.2%).

The prices of industrial rebounded
In October 2021, prices in euros of industrial raw materials started to rise again (+4.5% after −2.4% in September). Indeed, prices of mineral materials rebounded (+4.5% after −3.5%): ferrous metal prices stabilised after two months of strong decline (−0.1% after −22.5% in September and −23.2% in August), precious metal prices recovered (+1.3% after −2.6%) and non-ferrous metal prices accelerated (+6.3% after +4.3%).
The increase in the prices of agro-industrial raw materials is heightening (+4.8% after +2.9%), in the wake of the prices of sawn softwood (+17.4% after +17.2%), natural textile fibres (+13.2% after +1.8%) or natural rubber (+8.4% after −5.6%). In addition, hide prices continued to rise (+1.9% after +1.3%) and tropical wood prices recovered (+1.2% after −0.4%). Prices of wood pulp, on the other hand, continued to fall (−3.1% after −1.9%).

Food commodity prices back on the rise
Prices in euros of imported food commodities started to rise again in October (+2.5% after −1.1% in September), due in particular to the rebound in the prices of meat (+3.8% after −8.5%), cereals (+3.8% after −3.0%), oilseeds (+1.9% after −1.1%) and sugar (+3.3% after −0.6%). Tropical commodity prices, on their side, went up sharply again (+5.3% after +5.7%). Only the prices of seafood declined (−2.5% after −0.1%).

The sources used to trace certain prices have been modified since the August 2021 edition (published on 28/09/2021), which has led to revisions in some series. These changes are detailed in the warning box associated with the 28/09/2021 publication. The methodological note available in the "Documentation" tab presents in more detail the series and weights now used.
Crude oil: from 1986, the price of Brent gradually established as a representative reference price of European supplies.
Petroleum: Prices of oil products are monthly averages.
Indices of non-energy raw materials imported by France: the indices calculated by INSEE are monthly averages of raw materials prices, weighted by their share in the French imports of raw materials (2010 = 100).
