Manufactured goods: slight decrease
In August, consumption of manufactured goods continued to decline, but less sharply than in July (–0.6% after –2.8%).
Durables: –0.2%
Purchases of durable goods decreased very slightly (–0.2% after –1.9% in July). Spending on housing equipment declined (–2.0% after +1.2%). This decrease is due to the strong decline in furniture purchases. Conversely, purchases of transportation equipment rebounded (+1.8% after –4.2%), mainly due to a recovery in new car sales, but remained below their pre–crisis level (–12.6% compared to Q4 2019).
Textile-clothing: –1.5%
Spending on clothing and textiles continued to decline in August (–1.5%) after a sharp drop in July (–7.9%).
Other manufactured goods: –0.7%
In August, consumption of "other manufactured goods" decreased again (–0.7% after –0.7% in July).

Energy: increase
In August, energy consumption continued to increase (+0.6% after +0.7% in July). This increase is mainly due to the rise in fuel consumption (+1.1% after +0.8%). This consumption exceeds its pre-crisis level since July (+0,7% in July - revised estimate - and +1.8% in August compared to Q4 2019). Gas and electricity consumption was almost stable (+0.2% after +0.7%).
