In July 2021, turnover fell back in the manufacturing industry (6.8% after +10.2% in June) as in industry as a whole (–5.7% after +7.6% in June).
Export turnover declined sharply (–9.1% after +17.5% in June).
Turnover in July 2021 was lower than its level of February 2020 (last month before the first lockdown), in the manufacturing industry (–4.4%) as in industry as a whole (–0.9%).
In the following paragraphs, percentage changes by subsections are presented in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the industrial production index. The contribution of a subsection takes into account its weight and the magnitude of its evolution.
All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).

In July 2021, turnover decreased very strongly in the manufacture of transport equipment, countering the increase in the previous month
In July, turnover decreased very sharply in the manufacture of transport equipment (–29.8%), reversing the very strong increase in June (+53.4%). This sector contributed -4.0 points to the evolution of the manufacturing industry in July. Turnover also decreased in “other manufacturing” (–2.7% after +4.9% in June), in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (–3.9% after +3.3%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (–1.1% after +3.6%). Turnover went up slightly in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+0.5% after +4.6%). It went down again in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (–0.7% after –1.9% in June).
Compared to February 2020, turnover dropped very sharply in the manufacture of transport equipment (–36.2%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (–8.7%). It was in slight decline in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (–0.3%). Conversely, it increased in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+4.4%), in “other manufacturing” (+4.3%) and in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (+15.3%), particularly in relation to the price increases.
