Producer prices in French industry: +0.8%
The industrial producer prices kept rising in February 2021 (+0.8% after +1.2% in the previous month), mainly as a result of raw material price increases. Prices increased at the same pace (+0.8%) for the products for the home market and for those for the foreign markets. Year on year, the industrial producer prices ramped up (+1.5% after +0.1%).

The industrial producer prices for the home market increased by 0.8% in February 2021 (after +1.2%): those of manufactured products remained dynamic (+1.0% after +0.7%) while the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water slowed down considerably (+0.2% after +2.6%). Year on year, the industrial producer prices for the home market sped up markedly in February 2021 (+1.8% after +0.4%).
Very slight rise in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In February 2021, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water went up by 0.2% (after +2.6%): the prices of trade services of gas through mains kept rising (+3.5% after +5.2%), in connection with a revaluation of the regulated tariff. On the contrary, electricity production and trade prices fell back (–0.5% after +2.1%), mainly on the wholesale market. Year on year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water kept speeding up in February 2021 (+5.9% after +4.5% in January 2021 and +2.0% in December 2020).
Slight acceleration in refined petroleum product prices
In the wake of crude oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products sped up slightly in February 2021 over a month (+11.6% after +9.6%). Year on year, their decline softened sharply (–6.5% after –23.4%).

New rise in prices of the “other industrial products”
The prices of the “other industrial products” increased by 0.9% in February 2021, after +0.7%. Due to rises in raw material prices, the prices of chemicals and chemical products sped up sharply (+3.0% after +1.3%), as did those of basic metals (+4.2% after +3.5%). The prices of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, rose also (+0.5% after +0.4%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” sped up sharply in February 2021 (+1.2% after +0.1%).
Slight rebound in food and beverage prices
In February 2021, the food and beverage prices turned up slightly over a month (+0.2% after –0.2%) and remained virtually stable over a year (+0.1% after –0.1%).
Rise in the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery
In February 2021, the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery increased by 0.4% over a month (after a stability), due notably to the rebound of machinery and equipment n.e.c. prices (+0.4% after –0.4%). Over a year, they rose by 0.2% (after +0.1%).
Stability in transport equipment prices
In February 2021, the prices of transport equipment stabilized over a month (after +0.3%), those of motor vehicles were virtually stable (+0.1% as in January 2021). They remained dynamic over a year (+2.4% after +2.5%).

FOREIGN MARKETS: +0.8%
In February 2021, the export producer prices for the whole industry slowed down (+0.8% after +1.1%), as well as those of manufactured products (+0.8% after +1.1%). Year on year they turned up markedly (+0.6% after –0.5%).
The prices of the “other industrial products” remained on an upward trend (+1.2% after +1.5%). The prices of chemicals and chemical products sped up (+2.9% after +2.1%), those of basic metals remained very dynamic (+2.3% after +3.2%) while those of pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations slowed down sharply (+0.3% after +4.1%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” grew by 1.6% (after +0.2%).
The prices of refined petroleum products slowed down slightly over a month (+9.1% after +11.6%) and fell by 4.7% over a year (after –21.6%).
The prices of transport equipment slowed down over a month (+0.2% after +0.5%). They fell by 1.9% over a year (after –1.2%), driven down by those of air and spacecraft and related machinery, in the context of the slowdown in air transport due to the health crisis.
The prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery rose by 0.4% (after a stability), driven up mainly by machinery and equipment n.e.c. prices (+0.5% after +0.3%). Year on year, they decreased by 0.2% (after –0.6%).
At last, the prices of food products and beverages went up slightly in February 2021 over a month (+0.2% after a stability) but declined by 2.7% over a year (after –2.5%).

Import price indices of industrial products: +1.6%
In February 2021, the import prices of industrial products remained very dynamic (+1.6% after +1.4%), as a result of sharp rises in raw material prices (petroleum products, metals, wood…). Year on year, they bounced back sharply (+1.1% after –1.4%), breaking with the drops observed since February 2020.
The prices of the “other industrial products” grew by 1.0% (after +1.3%): those of chemicals and chemical products sped up (+3.4% after +2.7%), as did those of wood, products of wood and cork (except furniture), articles of straw and plaiting materials (+2.0% after +1.3%). The prices of basic metals remained up sharply (+2.8% after +3.2%). On the contrary, those of wearing apparel remained down (–0.5% after –0.9%). Year on year the prices of the “other industrial products” sped up sharply (+1.6% after +0.6%).
The prices of coke and refined petroleum products sped up also over a month (+12.5% after +8.4%) but they remained down over a year (–14.2% after –26.0%).
Those of transport equipment turned up slightly over a month (+0.2% after –0.4%) and increased by 0.6% over a year (after +0.5%).
Driven up by the prices of oils and fats (+2.7% after +3.2%), the prices of food products, beverages and tobacco grew by 0.4% over a month (after +0.3%), as year on year (after +0.1%).
At last, the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery were virtually stable over a month (+0.1% after +0.2%) and were unchanged over a year.

Definition
The producer price indices in industry measure the change of producer prices of goods and services, linked to a given industrial activity and sold on the home market or on the foreign markets.
The import price indices of industrial products measure the change of transaction prices of goods and services purchased by economic agents established on French territory to non-resident agents.
Calculation method
They are calculated on the basis of the results of the survey « Observation of prices in industry and services » (Opise), which is operated by INSEE.

Definition
The producer price indices in industry measure the change of producer prices of goods and services, linked to a given industrial activity and sold on the home market or on the foreign markets.
The import price indices of industrial products measure the change of transaction prices of goods and services purchased by economic agents established on French territory to non-resident agents.
Calculation method
They are calculated on the basis of the results of the survey « Observation of prices in industry and services » (Opise), which is operated by INSEE.
