In February 2021, the turnover in large-scale food retailing increased, more moderately than in January (+0.2% after +0.5 %). The turnover decreased in food products (−0.5% after +1.4%). By contrast, it bounced back markedly in non-food products (+2.9% after −4.3%). Sales of automotive fuel slowed down (+1.1% after +6.8%).
Turnover kept rising in supermarkets (+0.7% after +0.8%) and dropped again slightly in hypermarkets (−0.2% after −0.4%).
In February 2021, a slight increase in large-scale food retailing turnover
In February 2021, the turnover in large-scale food retailing increased, more moderately than in January (+0.2% after +0.5 %). The turnover decreased in food products (−0.5% after +1.4%). By contrast, it bounced back markedly in non-food products (+2.9% after −4.3%). Sales of automotive fuel slowed down (+1.1% after +6.8%).
Turnover kept rising in supermarkets (+0.7% after +0.8%) and dropped again slightly in hypermarkets (−0.2% after −0.4%).
Increase in turnover over a year (+1.8%)
The turnover of the past three months (December 2020 to February 2021) in large-scale food retailing increased (+1.8%) when compared with the same period one year earlier. Over that period, sales grew both in food products (+4.9%), and non-food products (+4.8%). On the contrary, sales collapsed in automotive fuel (−19.7%).
Year on year, the rise of sales was more pronounced in supermarkets (+2.4%) than in hypermarkets (+0.3%).
