In October 2020, the turnover in large-scale food retailing recovered (+2.3%) after a fall in September (−4.3%). This rebound concerned both food (+3.1% after −4.4%) and non-food products (+2.3% after −3.8%). Sales of automotive fuel decreased again (−2.7% after −1.6% in September).
Turnover rose in both supermarkets (+0.7% after −3.0%) and hypermarkets (+3.0% after −4.8%).
In October 2020, the turnover in large-scale food retailing recovered
In October 2020, the turnover in large-scale food retailing recovered (+2.3%) after a fall in September (−4.3%). This rebound concerned both food (+3.1% after −4.4%) and non-food products (+2.3% after −3.8%). Sales of automotive fuel decreased again (−2.7% after −1.6% in September).
Turnover rose in both supermarkets (+0.7% after −3.0%) and hypermarkets (+3.0% after −4.8%).
Increase over a year (+1.9%)
The turnover of the past three months (August to October) in large-scale food retailing rose (+1.9%) compared to the same period one year earlier. Over that period, sales rose in food products (+4.1%) and in non-food products (+6.9%). On the contrary, sales collapsed in automotive fuel (−15.6%).
Year on year, sales grew more sharply in supermarkets (+2.6%) than in hypermarkets (+0.2%).
