The producer prices in French industry rose by 0.3% in September 2020, after a stability in August 2020: they increased for the home market (+0.2% after +0.1%) as well as for the foreign markets (+0.4% after –0.3%). Year on year, the producer prices in French industry remained nevertheless down by 2.1% in September 2020 (like in the previous month).

Producer prices in French industry: +0.3%
The producer prices in French industry rose by 0.3% in September 2020, after a stability in August 2020: they increased for the home market (+0.2% after +0.1%) as well as for the foreign markets (+0.4% after –0.3%). Year on year, the producer prices in French industry remained nevertheless down by 2.1% in September 2020 (like in the previous month).
HOME MARKET: +0.2%
The French producer prices in industry for the home market grew by 0.2% in September 2020 (after +0.1%), driven up by the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water, whereas those of manufactured products were virtually stable (–0.1% after –0.3%). Year on year, the French producer prices in industry for the French market declined by 2.4% in September 2020 (after –2.5% in the previous month).
Rise in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In September 2020, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water sped up (+1.6% after +0.8%), driven up by the prices of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning (+1.5% after +1.1%). The prices of trade services of gas through pipelines kept recovering (+5.5% after +1.9%), following a rise on the spot market. The prices of electricity production and trade increased also by 1.4% (after +1.1%), as a result of a rising demand. Year on year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water fell by 0.7% in September 2020 (after –2.7% in the previous month).
New fall in refined petroleum product prices
In the wake of crude oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products decreased by 7.5% in September 2020 over a month (after –3.0%). They fell by 41.7% over a year (after –33.9%).

Slight rise in prices of the “other industrial products”
In September 2020, the prices of the “other industrial products” grew by 0.2% (after –0.1% in the previous month). The chemical product prices recovered slightly (+0.6% after –0.3%). Those of basic metals sped up (+0.6% after +0.2%), driven up by world metal prices. Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” decreased by 1.7% in September 2020 (after –1.9% in the previous month).
Slight rebound in transport equipment prices
In September 2020, the prices of transport equipment recovered by 0.4% over a month (after –0.1%), driven up by those of motor vehicles (+0.6% after a stability). Year on year, the prices of transport equipment grew by 2.3% (after +2.0%).
Virtual stability in food and beverage prices
In September 2020, the food and beverage prices were virtually stable over a month (–0.1% after –0.3%) and kept decreasing over a year (–0.2% like in the previous month).
Slight rise in the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery
In September 2020, the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery grew by 0.2% over a month (after +0.1%) and by 0.5% over a year (after +0.6%).

FOREIGN MARKETS: +0.4%
In September 2020, the producer prices of French industrial products for the foreign markets recovered (+0.4% after –0.3%). The export prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water rose sharply while those of manufactured products fell slightly (–0.2% after –0.3%). Year on year, the producer prices of French industrial products for the foreign markets declined by 1.6% (after –1.4%).
The export prices of the “other industrial products” decreased by 0.3% in September 2020 (after a stability in the previous month), driven down by those of chemical products (–1.8% after +0.6%). Year on year, the export prices of the “other industrial products” declined by 2.5% (after –1.9% in the previous month).
In the wake of oil prices, the export prices of refined petroleum products decreased by 5.1% in September 2020 (after +8.7%). Year on year, they fell by 37.3% (after –31.4%).
At last, the export prices of food products and beverages were virtually stable in September 2020 over a month (–0.1% after –0.2%) and decreased by 0.7% over a year (after –0.5%).

The import prices of industrial products were almost stable in September 2020 (–0.1% after a stability in the previous month), as those of manufactured products (–0.1% like in the previous month). Year on year, the import prices of industrial products declined by 4.3% (after –3.5% in the previous month).
In September 2020, the import prices for coke and refined petroleum products decreased by 8.8% over a month (after –3.5%) and dropped by 44.6% over a year (after –35.4%).
The import prices of transport equipment recovered by 0.3% over a month (after –0.5%), driven up by those of motor vehicles (+0.8% after –0.9%). Year on year, they increased by 0.5% (after +0.2%).
The import prices of “other industrial products” were almost stable in September 2020 (+0.1% after +0.3%). The import prices of basic metals increased by 0.9% (after +1.0%), driven up by world metal prices. On the contrary, the import prices of pharmaceutical products decreased by 0.3% (after +0.5%). Year on year, the import prices of “other industrial products” declined by 1.6% (after –1.5%).
