In May 2020, the turnover in large-scale food retailing rebounded strongly (+9.1% after −11.9% in April). It grew more moderately in food products (+1.9%) after the strong variations of the previous months linked to the storage behaviors (+11.4% in March then −7.7% in April). It surged in non-food products (+14.3% after −1.0% in April). It bounced back sharply in automotive fuel (+75.0% after −54.6% in April) while remaining at a lower level compared to February.
Turnover grew in supermarkets (+3.3% after −11.1 % in April) and more strongly in hypermarkets (+11.4% after −12.4%).

Decrease over the last three months (−2.2%)
Over the last three months (March to May), the turnover in large-scale food retailing decreased (−2.2%) compared to the previous three months. Over that period, sales rose strongly in food products (+7.6%) and more moderately in non-food products (+2.3%). By contrast, they fell in automotive fuel (−52.3%).
Turnover grew in supermarkets (+2.8%) whereas it declined in hypermarkets (−6.2%).
Decrease over a year (−2.2%)
The turnover of the past three months in large-scale food retailing decreased (−2.2%) compared to the same period one year earlier. Over that period, sales grew sharply in food products (+7.7%) whereas they decreased in non-food products (−0.8%) and fell in automotive fuel (−51.4%).
Year on year, sales rose in supermarkets (+3.3%) whereas they declined sharply in hypermarkets (−7.5%).
