In Q4 2019, private payroll employment increased by 0.2%. This increase is comparable to that of the previous quarter: +40,700 net jobs after +33,200 jobs.
Private payroll employment increased by 0.2% as in the third quarter
In Q4 2019, private payroll employment increased by 0.2%. This increase is comparable to that of the previous quarter: +40,700 net jobs after +33,200 jobs. Over the year as a whole in 2019, private payroll employment rose by 1.1% (that is +210,000 jobs). It was slightly more dynamic in 2019 than in 2018 (+163,000 jobs) but significantly less than in 2017 (+329,700 jobs). Excluding temporary employment, private employment rose by: +0.3% over the quarter (that is +48,100 jobs) and by +1.2% over the year (that is +216,300 jobs).
Private payroll employment grew strongly again in construction: +0.6% in Q4 2019, as in the previous quarter (that is +8,100 jobs after +8,900 jobs). It was almost stable in industry: –0.1% (that is –1,700 jobs), after 0.0%. Year on year, private payroll employment increased by 42,200 in construction and by 7,900 in industry.
Private employment increased in market services: +0.3% (that is +31,800 jobs), after +0.2% (that is +22,500 jobs) in the previous quarter, bringing its rise to 1,3% over a year (that is +155,000). Excluding temporary employment, the increase over the quarter is similar (+0.3%) and barely more dynamic over the year (+1.4%). Private employment in non-market services is almost stable over the quarter (+0.1 %) and stable over the year (0.0%).
Temporary employment declined again
Temporary employment went down again: –0.9% after –0.4% in the previous quarter (that is –7,400 jobs after –3,500). Year on year, it decreased by 0.8% (that is –6,300 jobs).
