In December 2019, agricultural producer prices declined by 0.3% year on year. Excluding fruit and vegetables, they rose by 0.3% over one month, but were stable year on year.
Increase in cereal prices over one month
In December 2019, cereal prices increased (+1.5% over one month after +1.2% in November) in the wake of the soft wheat prices (+2.0% over one month after +2.1% in November). This rise was due to concerns about the next harvest in Ukraine, Russia and Australia, as well as the reintroduction of export taxes in Argentina. These taxes also had an impact on rebounding maize prices (+1.6% over one month after −0.1% in December). Year on year, cereal prices fell by 11.0% in December (after −11.4% in November).
Oilseed prices sped up: +2.9% over one month after +1.5% in November. Soybeans prices bounced back slightly (+0.3% over one month after −1.9% in November) in connection with hopes for trade agreements between the United States and China. The rapeseed prices accelerated (+2.3% over one month after +1.5% in November), as well as sunflower prices (+6.5% over one month after +2.3% in November).

Pig prices still on an upward trend year on year
In December 2019, animal prices decelerated (+0.4% over one month after +1.2% in November) due to the slowdown in pig prices (+0.7% after +3.5% in November) which, however, remained very dynamic year on year (+38.2% after +38.7%), due to the large Chinese demand connected to the ongoing swine fever epidemic. In addition, cattle prices rose in December (+0.3% over one month after +0.5%), but fell year on year (−1.3% after −0.9% in November).

To know more about French agricultural price indices
The indice of producer prices for agricultural products (IPPAP) measures the changes in product prices when they are put on the market for the first time. It is published in base and reference 100 in 2015. The weight-coefficients of fresh fruits and vegetables change every month so that they reflect their very seasonal pattern. As a result their variations must only be interpreted year on year. If needed, indices are seasonally adjusted.
The indice of purchase prices of the means of agricultural production (IPAMPA) reflects the evolution prices of goods and services used in the agricultural process. It is not seasonaly adjusted.
