In December 2019, the turnover in large-scale food retailing fell back (−0.3% after +0.7% in November). It increased again in food products (+0.3% after +0.4%), and dwindled in non-food products (−1.4% after +1.5%) and in automotive fuel (−0.6% after +0.5%).
Turnover grew in supermarkets after a virtual stability in Novermber (+1.1% after +0.1%) whereas it fell back in hypermarkets (−1.3% after +0.8%).

Slight increase over the fourth quarter (+0.3%)
Over the fourth quarter 2019, the turnover in large-scale food retailing increased slightly (+0.3%) compared to the third quarter 2019. Sales were virtually stable in food products (+0.1%) and in automotive fuel (−0.1%), and increased in non-food products (+0.5%).
Turnover grew in supermarkets (+0.9%) whereas it declined in hypermarkets (−0.3%).
Decrease of 0.7% over a year
Over the fourth quarter 2019, the turnover in large-scale food retailing decreased by 0.7% compared to the fourth quarter 2018. Over that period, sales fell back in food products (−0.6%), in non-food products (−1.5%) and in automotive fuel (−0.2%). Year on year, sales were virtually stable in supermarkets (−0.1%) whereas they declined in hypermarkets (−1.5%).
