On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry were virtually stable in October 2019 (–0.1% after +0.2%). The stability involved both prices for the French Market (–0.1% after a stability) and for foreign markets (stability after +0.6%). Year on year, producer prices in industry kept declining in October 2019 (–1.2% after –0.7%).
In November, the platform on which companies answer business surveys has been unavailable for a few days. Therefore, the results presented here might be more revised than usually in the next publication, which will take into account the answers delivered late.

FRENCH MARKET: –0.1% in October 2019
French producer prices in industry for the French market have been almost unchanged since August 2019 (–0.1% in October after two consecutive months of stability). Manufactured product prices fell back slightly (–0.2% after +0.3%) whereas those of mining and quarrying products, energy and water stabilized (+0.1% after –0.6%). Year on year, French producer prices in industry for the French market got worse in October 2019 (–1.4% after –1.1% in September and –0.6% in August).
Backlash in prices of refined petroleum products
In the wake of oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products fell back in October 2019 (–3.1% after +5.0%). Year on year, they shrank (–17.5% after –11.0%).

Slight decrease in prices of “other industrial products”
The prices of “other industrial products” kept declining in October 2019 (–0.2% as in September). Chemical product prices decreased significantly (–0.9% after a stability), following the fall in raw material costs. Besides, basic metal product prices kept declining (–0.4% after –0.2%), driven down by those of basic iron and steel and ferro-alloys (–1.5% after –1.2%). On the contrary, the prices of printing and recording services recovered (+0.6% after –1.0%). Year on year, the prices of “other industrial products” decreased by 0.8% (after –0.7%).
Rise in food and beverage prices
In October 2019, food and beverage prices went up again (+0.3% after two months of stability). Prices of meat and meat products sped up sharply (+1.5% after +0.4%), due to the persistent surge in pork meat prices in the context of the swine fever crisis. Sugar prices strengthened significantly (+6.4% after +0.4%), following a recovery on international prices. Year on year, food and beverage prices sped up slightly in October 2019 (+1.1% after +0.8%).

Virtual stability in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
The prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water were virtually stable in October 2019 (+0.1% after –0.6%). Seasonally, the producer prices of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply recovered (+0.9% after –0.8%), in each energy. On the contrary, those of collection, treatment and disposal services and materials recovery services plummeted (–3.6% after –0.1%), following the fall of raw material prices. Year on year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water kept declining in October 2019 (–1.8% after –1.7%).
FOREIGN MARKETS: stability in October 2019
The producer prices of French industrial products on foreign markets stabilized in October 2019 (after +0.6%), especially those of manufactured products (–0.1% after +0.6%).
The export prices of “other industrial products” went down again (–0.5% after +0.2% in September), mainly those of chemical products (–1.0% after +0.4%) and basic metals (–1.2% after +0.3%).
Export prices of refined petroleum products fell back slightly over one month (–0.6% after +4.4%) and plummeted over one year (–13.2% after –10.5%).
On the contrary, export transport equipment prices grew by 0.3% over one month (after +1.1%) and by 4.1% over one year (as in September).
Year on year, the producer prices of French industrial products on foreign markets decreased by 0.5% in October 2019 (after a stability in September).

Import price indices of industrial products: –0.1% in October 2019
In October 2019, the import prices of industrial products were virtually stable (–0.1% after +0.7%), especially those of manufactured products (–0.1% after +0.4%).
The import prices of “other industrial products” were almost unchanged over one month (–0.1% after +0.2%) and decreased at a faster pace over one year (–0.8% after –0.3%).
In the wake of oil prices, import prices for coke and refined petroleum products fell by 1.3% over one month (after +6.5%) and by 16.0% over one year (after –11.3%).
Year over year, the decline in import prices of industrial products amplified in October 2019 (–3.0% after –1.9% in September).
