In September 2019, the turnover fell back in the manufacturing industry (−0.5% after +0.6% in August). It also slipped back in industry as a whole (−0.3% after +0.6%).

Export turnover recovered in September (+0.3% after −0.3% in August).

Rise over the third quarter (+0.5%)

Over the third quarter 2019, the turnover rose both in the manufacturing industry (+0.5%) and in industry as a whole (+0.5%), compared to the second quarter 2019. Within manufacturing, the turnover grew in the manufacture of transport equipment (+2.5%) and increased slightly in “other manufacturing” (+0.2%). It was virtually stable in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.1%) and decreased in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−0.5%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−0.7%)

In September, downturn in transport equipment  (−2.8%)

The turnover in the manufacture of transport equipment fell back in September 2019 (−2.8% after +2.6%), due to a strong decrease in the manufacture of other transport equipment (−4.9% after +4.4%). It increased slightly in the manufacture of motor vehicles (+0.3% as the previous month).

Export sales of transport equipment slipped back (−0.9% after +0.4% in August).

Backlash in machinery and equipment goods (−1.5%)

In September 2019, the turnover in machinery and equipment fell back (−1.5% after +1.5% in August). It shrank sharply in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (−4.4% after +3.3%) and slightly in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (−0.3% after +1.6%). By contrast, it recovered in the manufacture of electrical equipment (+0.5% after −1.3%).

Export sales grew again, but slightly, in machinery and equipment goods in September (+0.3% after +0.4%).

Further fall in coke and refined petroleum products (−2.5%)

The turnover in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products fell again in September (−2.5% after −3.6%).

Slight rebound in food products and beverages (+0.2%)

The turnover in the manufacture of food products and beverages edged up in September (+0.2% after −0.6%). Export sales also recovered (+0.4% after −0.9%).

Further increase in “other manufacturing” (+0.6 %)

The turnover in “other manufacturing” increased again in September (+0.6% after +0.5%). It bounced back strongly in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+11.0% after −5.9%). It also grew in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products and other non−metallic mineral products (+1.0% after +0.2%) and in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (+0.4% after −1.2%). By contrast, it decreased slightly in the manufacture of wood and paper products; printing and reproduction of recorded media (−0.3% after +2.4%) and in other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (−0.6% after +1.5%). It fell back strongly in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (−3.3% after +3.1%) as in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (−1.0% after +2.2%).
