On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry grew anew in September 2019 (+0.3% after –0.1% in August and +0.4% in July). Prices for foreign markets recovered (+0.5% after –0.2%) whereas those for the French Market were virtually stable (+0.1% after a stability in August). However producer prices in industry kept declining year on year in September 2019 (–0.7% after –0.6%).

FRENCH MARKET: +0.1% in September 2019
In September 2019, French producer prices in industry for the French market were virtually stable (+0.1% after a stability in August). Manufactured product prices recovered slightly (+0.2% after –0.3%) whereas those of mining and quarrying products, energy and water stabilized (–0.1% after +1.1%). Year on year, French producer prices in industry for the French market got worse in September 2019 (–1.0% after –0.6%).
Rebound in prices of refined petroleum products
In the wake of oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products recovered in September 2019 (+5.0% after –5.4%). Year on year, they kept declining (–11.0% after –13.1%).

Virtual stability in prices of “other industrial products”
The prices of “other industrial products” were almost stable in September 2019 (–0.1% after a stability in August). Prices in each product family were almost unchanged or a little down, except those of wearing apparel (+0.6%). Basic metal product prices bounced back slightly (–0.2% after +0.3%), mainly those of basic iron and steel and ferro-alloys (–1.2% after +0.2%). Year on year, the prices of “other industrial products” kept declining (–0.6% after –0.4%).
Virtual stability in food and beverage prices
In September 2019, food and beverage prices remained almost stable (–0.1% after a stability in August). Prices of meat and meat products kept growing (+0.3% after +0.7%), due to the high Chinese demand for pork meat following the swine fever crisis. On the contrary, those of bakery products and alimentary pasta fell by 0.6% (after +0.1%). Year on year, food and beverage prices slowed down again in September 2019 (+0.7% after +0.9% and +1.1%).

Virtual stability in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
The prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water were virtually stable in September 2019, after the two previous month rises (+1.1% in August and +1.0% in July). Electricity production and trade prices stabilized (after +2.6%). On the contrary, those of trade services of gas through mains kept declining slightly (–0.5% after –0.7%), following a new fall in regulated rates. Steam and air conditioning supply also decreased (–1.3% after +0.1%). For the first time since December 2016, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water fell back year on year in September 2019 (–1.5% after +0.2%).
FOREIGN MARKETS: +0.5%
The producer prices of French industrial products on foreign markets recovered in September 2019 (+0.5% after –0.2%), owing to the rise in manufactured product prices (+0.5% after –0.1%). Export transport equipment prices grew by 0.6% (after +0.5%), following the appreciation of the dollar against the euro. Export prices of refined petroleum products recovered over one month (+4.6% after –4.7%) in the wake of oil prices but kept decreasing over one year (–10.5% after –12.7%). The export prices of “other industrial products” bounced back slightly (+0.2% after –0.2%), mainly those of chemical products (+0.4% after –0.7%) and pharmaceutical products (+0.7% after –0.1%). Export prices of food and beverages grew slightly (+0.2% after +0.5%). Year on year the producer prices of French industrial products on foreign markets continued to fall in September 2019 (–0.3% after –0.6%).

Import price indices of industrial products: +0.7% in September 2019
In September 2019, the import prices of industrial products recovered sharply (+0.7% after –0.5%), owing to the combined rises in import prices of manufactured products (+0.4% after –0.2%) and hydrocarbons. In the wake of oil prices, import prices for coke and refined petroleum products bounced back (+6.4% after –3.9%). The import prices of “other industrial products” grew slightly (+0.2% after –0.1%), especially those of basic metals (+1.0% after +0.1% in August), following the rises in non-ferrous and precious metal prices. Year over year, the decline in import prices of industrial products kept declining in September 2019 (–1.9% after –1.8% in August).
