In August 2019, the turnover increased again in the manufacturing industry (+0.5% after +2.2% in July). It also rose again in industry as a whole (+0.7% after +1.7%).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution to the overall evolution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

In August 2019, the turnover increased again in the manufacturing industry (+0.5% after +2.2% in July). It also rose again in industry as a whole (+0.7% after +1.7%).
Export turnover decreased again in August (−0.4% after −0.7% in July).
Decrease over the last three months (−0.7%)
Over the last three months (June to August), the turnover decreased both in the manufacturing industry (−0.7%) and in industry as a whole (−0.5%), compared to the previous three months. Within manufacturing, the turnover fell in “other manufacturing” (−0.8%) and decreased strongly in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−6.1%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−1.8%). By contrast, it was virtually stable in the manufacture of transport equipment and increased in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.5%).

Increase compared to the previous year (+2.4%)
The turnover over the last three months grew by 2.4% compared to the same three months of the previous year in the manufacturing industry. It also increased in industry as a whole (+2.8%). Within manufacturing, the turnover rose strongly in the manufacture of transport equipment (+11.2%). It also grew in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+3.0%), in “other manufacturing” (+0.6%), and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+1.7%). By contrast, it went down strongly in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−10.5%).

In August, further growth in transport equipment (+2.3%)
The turnover in the manufacture of transport equipment grew again in August 2019 (+2.3% after +5.5%), due to a strong rise in the manufacture of other transport equipment (+4.1% after +9.2%). It decreased slightly in the manufacture of motor vehicles (−0.2% after +0.8%).
Export sales of transport equipment increased slightly (+0.2% after a strong fall of−10.0% in July).
Further increase in “other manufacturing” (+0.5 %)
The turnover in “other manufacturing” increased again in August (+0.5% after +0.4%). It grew in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (+2.3% after +0.5%), in the manufacture of wood and paper products; printing and reproduction of recorded media (+2.3% after −1.1%), in other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+1.3% after +1.4%), and in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (+2.8% after −0.2%). It was stable in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products and other non−metallic mineral products (after +0.7% in July), The turnover decreased in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (−1.4% after a stability in July) and more strongly in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (−4.8% after +0.3%).
Exports sales in “other manufacturing” turned down in August (−0.3% after +2.2%).
Further rise in machinery and equipment goods (+1.2%)
In August 2019, the turnover in machinery and equipment rose again (+1.2% after +0.6% in July). It increased again in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (+2.7% after +2.7%) and bounced back in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (+1.3% after −0.8%) but contracted in the manufacture of electrical equipment (−1.1% after +0.2%).
Export sales also grew in machinery and equipment goods in August (+0.7% after +2.1%).
Downturn in food products and beverages (−0.5%)
The turnover in the manufacture of food products and beverages turned down in August (−0.5% after +1.3%). Export sales also turned down (−0.8% after +2.0%).
Fall in coke and refined petroleum products (−3.2%)
The turnover in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products fell in August 2019 (−3.2% after +14.9%).
