Near stability in business start-ups in August 2019 Enterprise births - August 2019

In August 2019, the number of business births for all enterprises is virtually stable (+0.2% after +0.6% in July, seasonally and working-day adjusted). Conventional businesses start-ups increased (+1.3% after +0.8%) while micro-entrepreneurs' registrations fell back slightly (-0.9% after +0.4%).

+15.9% over the twelve last months

The raw number of business start-ups totted up during the last twelve months was still inscreasing sharply (+15.9%). All the types of business start-ups increased: micro-entrepreneurs' registrations (+25.9%), conventional sole proprietorship start-ups (+9.8%) and company births (+6.9%).

Upsurge of business setp-ups in business support activities over the twelve last months

In raw data totted up over the last twelve months, business support activities was the sector that contributed the most to the overall rise (rise by +25 800 business start-ups, which comes to a contribution of 0.9 points to the total)*. Within it, the increase was the higher in business and other management counsultancy activities (+5 100 business start-ups over the last twelve months).

* The contribution of a sector to the overall variation is the variation observed in this sector, weighted by the share of this sector in the total number of births.

Less than a half of business set-ups are self-managed micro-entrepreneurs' registrations

In August 2019, the share of micro–entrepreneurs' registrations in the businesses set up over the last twelve months grew again and reached 47.0%.

Revisions

The variation in the overall number of business births in July 2019 has been raised by 0.6 points to +0.6% instead of +0.0%, due to the revision of raw data and the update of the SA-WDA parameters.
