For further information:

In June 2019, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets rose by 0.1%, after +0.2% in May. In large and predominantly food stores, prices grew barely less than in the previous month (+0.1% after +0.2%).

Excluding hyper and supermarkets, the prices were stable, after +0.1% in May.

Considering all kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods increased by 0.1% after +0.2% in May.

Year on year, acceleration in prices in hyper and supermarkets

Compared with the same month last year, the prices of frequently purchased goods sold in hyper and supermarkets gathered pace by 1.9%, after +1.7% in May. In large and predominantly food stores too, the prices increased more than in the previous month: +1.8% year on year, after +1.6%.

In the other kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods remained more dynamic than in large distributors, but slowed down for the second consecutive month: +2.1% year on year in June after +2.3% in May.

Considering all types of stores, the increase in the prices of frequently purchased goods rose by 1.9% year on year, after +1.8% in May.

Slowdown in food prices in hyper and supermarkets

In June 2019, the prices of food (excluding fresh products) sold in hyper and supermarkets slightly slowed down, to +0.1% after +0.3% in May. Year on year, their rise was more marked than in the previous month (+2.3% after +2.1%).

This slowdown over a month resulted from these in meat and beverage prices, whereas the prices of other food products rose at the same pace as in the previous month.

The prices of meat sold in hyper and supermarkets were less dynamic than in May: +0.4% after +0.6% in May. Year on year, their rise was sharply more sustained than in May: +2.3% after +1.9%.

The prices of beverage sold in hyper and supermarkets were stable in June, after an acceleration to +0.3% in May. Year on year, they rose by 2.9%, after +2.8% in May.

The prices of other food products (excluding fresh food) rose by 0.1% in June, as in May. Year on year, these prices increased at the same pace as than in the previous month (+2.0%).

Little rebound in the prices of cleaning and personal care products in hyper and supermarkets

After a 0.2% drop in May, the prices of cleaning and personal care products sold in hyper and supermarkets barely, to +0.1% in June. Year on year, their prices slightly rebounded to +0.1% after −0.4%.
