On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry declined by 0.2% in April 2019 after being stable in March 2019. Those for the French Market reduced (–0.6%) whereas those for foreign markets increased by 0.7%. Year on year, producer prices in industry sped up slightly (+2.2% after +1.8%).

FRENCH MARKET: –0.6%
In April 2019, French producer prices in industry for the French market fell by 0.6% after being stable in March 2019. The seasonal decline in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water was a bit softened by the rise of manufactured product prices (+0.4% as in March). Year on year, French producer prices in industry for the French market remained dynamic (+2.2% after +2.0%).
Seasonal fall in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In April 2019, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water declined sharply (–4.2% after –1.0%). Electricity transport prices fell considerably as every year during the changeover to summer rates. Electricity trade prices fell again (–3.2% after –1.9%), especially those on the wholesale market. Gas selling prices decreased for the fifth month in a row (–3.1% after –2.8%), following the new decline in regulated fares. However, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water sped up year on year (+5.8% after +3.9%).
Further rise in prices of refined petroleum products
In the wake of oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products increased again sharply in April 2019 (+6.0% after +3.8%) but slowed down year on year (+7.3% after +10.8%).

Virtual stability in prices of “other industrial products”
The prices of “other industrial products” were virtually stable in April 2019 (+0.1% after +0.3%). In the wake of oil prices, chemical product prices grew again (+0.9% after +1.3%). The prices of basic metals and metallic products except machinery and equipment remained virtually stable (+0.1%). On the contrary, those of rubber and plastic products fell back (–0.4% after +0.1%). Year on year, the prices of “other industrial products” increased by 1.1%, as in March.
Stability in food and beverage prices
In April 2019, food and beverage prices stabilized (after –0.2% in March). The prices of all food product groups edged down, except those of meat and meat products which sped up sharply (+1.4% after +0.6%), especially owing to pork market tightening. Year on year, food and beverage prices sped up (+0.9% after +0.6%).

FOREIGN MARKETS: +0.7%
In April 2019, the producer prices of French industrial products on foreign markets increased by 0.7% after being stable in March, owing to the rises in prices of manufactured products (+0.5%) and electricity trading. Refined petroleum product export prices sped up in April 2019 (+5.9% after +3.4%) and remained dynamic year on year (+9.2% after +10.4%), in the wake of oil prices. Export transport equipment prices increased again by 0.4%, following the depreciation of the euro against the dollar, and sped up year on year (+2.8% after +2.5%). The export prices of “other industrial products” grew by 0.3% over one month (after +0.2%) and by 0.9% year on year. Chemical product prices kept growing (+0.5% as in March), as those of rubber and plastic products (+0.8% after +0.2%), following the hydrocarbon price growth. Besides, basic metal prices kept rising (+0.7% after +0.3%). Food and beverage export prices sped up over one month (+0.8% after +0.4%) and year on year (+2.6% after +1.9%). In April 2019, export prices of industrial products ramped up sharply year on year (+2.0% after +1.2%).

Import price indices of industrial products: +0.7% in April 2019
In April 2019, the import prices of industrial products rose anew (+0.7% after being stable in March), owing to the recovery of the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water and the growth of manufactured product prices (+0.3% as in March). In the wake of oil prices, import prices of coke and refined petroleum products sped up (+4.3% after +2.4%) and rose by 8.0% year on year. Import prices of electrical and electronic equipments, computers and machines rose by 0.2% (after +0.3% in March). The import prices of “other industrial products” were stable (after +0.2%) and grew by 1.0% year on year. Food, beverage and tobacco import prices were virtually stable in April 2019 (+0.1% after +0.2%) and slowed down again year on year (+0.6% after +0.9%). Year on year, the import prices of industrial products remained dynamic (+2.1% after +1.9%).
