In April 2019, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets rose by +0.2% as in March. In large and predominantly food stores, prices barely accelerated over a month (+0.2% after +0.1% in the previous month).

Excluding hyper and supermarkets, the prices increased by 0.2% after a stability in March.

Considering all kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods grew a little more quickly than in March: +0.2% after +0.1%.

Year on year, new rise in prices in hyper and supermarkets

Compared with the same month last year, the prices of frequently purchased goods sold in hyper and supermarkets accelerated in April for the sixth consecutive month (+1.7% year on year after +1.6% in the previous month). In large and predominantly food stores, the prices increased also a little more than in March (+1.6% year on year after +1.5%).

In the other kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods remained more dynamic than in large distributors: +2.4% year on year in April after +2.3% in March.

Considering all types of stores, the increase in the prices of frequently purchased goods rose at the same pace as in the previous month (+1.8%).

Slight rise in food prices in hyper and supermarkets

In April 2019, the prices of food (excluding fresh products) sold in hyper and supermarkets increased by 0.2% for the second consecutive month. Year on year, their rise was barely more marked than in the previous month (+2.1% after +2.0% in March).

This slight rise resulted from that of beverage prices and from a little acceleration in prices of other food products, whereas meat prices were stable.

The prices of meat sold in hyper and supermarkets were stable in April as in March. Year on year, they rose scarcely more than in the previous month: +1.7% after +1.6% in March.

The prices of beverages sold in hyper and supermarkets sharply slowed down for the second consecutive month: +0.1% after +0.4% in March and +0.7% in February. Year on year, they grew at the same pace as in March (+2.8%).

The rise in prices of other food products (excluding fresh food) was a little more pronounced than in March (+0.3% after +0.2%). Year on year, these prices were a little more dynamic than in the previous month (+1.9% after +1.8%).

Stability in the prices of cleaning and personal care products in hyper and supermarkets

After two months of slight decrease, the prices of cleaning and personal care products sold in hyper and supermarkets were stable in April. Year on year, their decrease was a little less marked than in March (−0.2% after −0.3%).
