On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry were virtually stable in March 2019 (–0.1% after +0.2% in February 2019). Year on year, they slowed down slightly (+1.6% after +1.8%).

FRENCH MARKET: stability in March 2019
In March 2019, French producer prices in industry for the French market were stable (after +0.4% in February). The decline in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water was offset by the rise of manufactured product prices (+0.3% after +0.5%). Year on year, French producer prices in industry for the French market grew by 1.9% (after +2.1%).
Fall in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
The prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water declined by 1.0% in March 2019 (after –0.1% in February). Electricity production and trade prices fell back (–1.8% after +0.2%), especially those on the wholesale market. Gas selling prices decreased for four months in a row (–2.9% after –3.8%). On the contrary, the prices of waste collection, treatment and disposal services and material recovery services bounced back (+1.0% after –0.3%), especially those of sorted material recovery services and secondary raw materials (+2.2%). Year on year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water slowed down (+3.7% after +4.5%).
Further rise in prices of refined petroleum products
In the wake of oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products increased again in March 2019 but at a more reduced pace (+3.8% after +8.6%). Year on year, they sped up slightly (+10.8% after +8.8% in February).

Slight rise in prices of “other industrial products”
The prices of “other industrial products” increased by 0.2% in March 2019 after remaining virtually stable in January and February. Chemical product prices grew again (+0.7% after +0.3%), in the wake of oil prices. Following the world raw material prices, fabricated metal product prices recovered (+0,4%) after declining for eight months in a raw. Year on year, the prices of “other industrial products” grew by 0.9% like in February.
Virtual stability in food and beverage prices
In March 2019, food and beverage prices were virtually stable (–0.1%), after being stable in February, with contrasting trends. Processed and preserved meat prices grew sharply (+1.4% after +0.2%) owing to pork market tightening, just like those of dairy and cheese products (+0.6% after –0.2%). On the contrary sugar prices plunged (–9.1% after –0.4%) following world exchange rates. The prices of bread, fresh pastry goods and cakes declined again (–0.7% after –0.3%). Year on year, food and beverage prices slowed down (+0.6% after +1.0%).
Slight rise in transport equipment prices
In March 2019, transport equipment prices grew by 0.2% (after +0.1%), especially those of motor vehicles (+0.3% after +0.2%). Year on year, they increased by 0.5% (after +0.4%).

FOREIGN MARKETS: –0.1%
In March 2019, the producer prices of French industrial products on foreign markets were virtually stable (–0.1% after –0.6%). The rise in manufactured product prices (+0.2%) was offset by the sharp fall in electricity selling prices. Refined petroleum product export prices went up in March 2019 (+3.4%), in the wake of oil prices, and sped up sharply year on year (+10.4% after +6.9%). The export prices of “other industrial products” remained virtually stable (+0.1% after –0.1%) and grew by 0.6% in a year (+0.7% in February). The export prices of fabricated metal products bounced back (+0.4%) after being down for three months in a raw, just like those of chemical products (+0.2% after –0.2%) following the raw material prices. On the contrary pharmaceutical product export prices decreased slightly (–0.2% after –0.1% in February). Food and beverage export prices grew by 0.3% in a month (after –0.1%) and 1.9% in a year (after +1.7%). Year on year, export prices of industrial products slowed down (+1.0% after +1.2%).

Import price indices of industrial products: +0.1% in March 2019
In March 2019, the import prices of industrial products were virtually stable (+0.1% after +0.8%). The prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water fell back: the rise in crude petroleum import prices was not offset by the sharp falls in gas and electricity import prices. Manufactured import prices remained growing by 0.4% and sped up slightly year on year (+1.6% after +1.4%). In the wake of oil prices, import prices of coke and refined petroleum products increased (+2.4%) and rose by 11.0% year on year (after +10.9%). Transport equipment import prices grew by 0.5% (after +0.2%), especially those of motor vehicles accessories (+2,3% after –0,2%). Import prices of electrical and electronic equipments, computers and machines rose by 0.3% after remaining stable for three months in a raw and increased by 1.3% year in year. The import prices of “other industrial products” remained virtually stable in March 2019 (+0.1% like in February). Following the raw material prices, chemical product prices remained up (+0.7 after +1.1%), like those of basic metals (+0.7 after +1.2%). On the contrary, wearing apparel import prices remained low (–0.8% like in February). Beverage and tobacco import prices were virtually stable in March 2019 (+0.1% after –0.2%), in spite of the growth in tobacco products prices (+1.9%), and slowed down year on year (+0.9% after +1.4%). Year on year, the import prices of industrial products remained dynamic (+1.9% after +2.0%).
