graphiqueMonthly Industrial Production Indices
Over a year, manufacturing output went up (+0.5%)
Manufacturing output of the last three months increased slightly compared to the same three months a year ago (+0.5%), and it was virtually stable in the whole industry.
Over a year, output increased sharply in the manufacture of transport equipment (+4.3%) and more moderatly in “other manufacturing” (+0.3%). On the contrary, it decreased strongly in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−3.2%), in coke and refined petroleum products (−3.2%) and more moderatly in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−1.0%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−0.4%).

In February, output accelerated in “other manufacturing” (+1.7% after +0.7%)
Output bounced back markedly in pharmaceuticals (+6.6% after −8.8%) and in chemicals (+3.5% after −0.4%). It slowed down in other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+1.2% after +7.7%). It bounced back in manufacturing of rubber and plastics products, and other non-metallic mineral products (+1.6% after −0.7%) and it slowed down in the manufacture of wood, paper and printing industries (+0.2% after +1.1%) and in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (virtual stability after +0.4%). Conversely, it slipped back in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (−3.8% after +0.5%).
Output bounced back in the manufacture of transport equipment (+3.0% after −3.2%)
Output bounced back in the manufacture of other transport equipment (+5.8% after −8.0%) while it slipped back in that of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (−0.4% after +3.2%).
Output decelerated in petroleum and refined products (+0.6% after +4.3%)
Output continued to increase in petroleum and refined products but at a slower pace than in January.
Output slipped back in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply (−3.8% after +4.2%)
Output slipped back particularly in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (−4.5% after +4.6%) because of milder temperatures in February 2019 than usual.
Output slipped back in machinery and equipment goods (−1.1% after +5.2%)
Output slipped back in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (–2.9% after +7.1%). It slowed in the manufacture of electrical equipment (+0.3% after +2.9%) and in that of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (virtual stability after +4.4%).
Output decreased sligthly in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.2% after a virtual stability)
The increase in the manufacture of other food products did not offset the decrease in the processing and preserving of meat and production of meat products and the manufacture of bakery and farinaceous products.
