In January 2019, the sales volume in overall trade recovered (+1.1%) after a decrease in December (−0.8%). It bounced back sharply in wholesale trade (+1.1% after −0.4%) and in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+3.1% after −2.2%), and more moderately in retail trade (+0.2% after −0.7%).

In January 2019, the sales volume in overall trade recovered (+1.1%) after a decrease in December (−0.8%). It bounced back sharply in wholesale trade (+1.1% after −0.4%) and in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+3.1% after −2.2%), and more moderately in retail trade (+0.2% after −0.7%).

The sales volume in overall trade decreased slightly over the last three months

Over the last three months (November to January), the sales volume in overall trade decreased slightly (−0.4%) compared to the previous three months. It declined strongly in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−2.2%). It was virtually stable in wholesale trade (−0.1%) and in retail trade (−0.1%) – it fell back in trade not in stores (−1.0%), it was virtually stable in specialised stores (−0.1%) and stabilized in specialised stores.

The sales volume rose by 0.9% over a year

The sales volume in overall trade grew by 0.9% over a year. It rose by 1.1% in wholesale trade and by 1.7% in retail trade – it grew in every subsection: non-specialised stores (+2.9%), specialised stores (+1.1%) and retail trade not in stores (+0.8%). It decreased in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−1.5%).

In January, increase in wholesale trade

In January 2019, the sales volume in wholesale trade recovered (+1.1% after −0.4% in December 2018). It bounced back sharply for wholesalers on a fee or contract basis (+5.0% after −5.9%) and in other specialised wholesale (+2.3% after −3.8%). It kept increasing in food, beverages and tobacco (+1.3% after +0.6%). By contrast, it fell back strongly in agricultural raw materials and live animals (−8.8% after +19.3%).

In January, rebound in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles

In January 2019, the sales volume in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles grew markedly (+3.1%) after a decrease in December 2018 (−2.2%). It bounced back in sale of motor vehicles (+2.6% after −2.7%), in sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories (+5.1% after −0.9%) and in maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (+2.1% after −1.9%).

Slight increase in retail trade

In January 2019, the sales volume in retail trade grew slightly (+0.2%) after a decrease in December 2018 (−0.7%). It recovered in specialised stores (+1.3% after −0.7%), and in retail trade not in stores (+0.2% after −2.5%), whereas it fell back in non-specialised stores (−1.3% after −0.4%). Among specialised stores, the sales volume bounced back in other household equipment (+2.8% after −1.1%), in automotive fuel (+3.9% after −4.3%) and in information and communication equipment (+3.5% after −1.5%) and it fell back slightly in cultural goods (−0.5% after +3.2%).

According to the first early estimates, the sales volume in retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles should stabilize in February 2019. It should grow by 1.9% year on year.
